上図１１１手までで、先手・佐々木五段が勝利。

戦型は「ノーマル角換わり」。
阿久津八段がシンプルに「原始棒銀」を仕掛けるも
佐々木五段が▲６八玉～▲８八銀～と受けに回ると
後手の「棒銀」は捌けず、あっさりと後退。。
序盤巧者の阿久津八段らしからぬ作戦の不発により
ペースを握った佐々木五段はそのまま一気に攻勢を強め
中盤戦で大きく形勢を握る展開となりました。

一般世間からも大きな注目を集めた
神童・藤井聡太四段の連勝記録を止めて一躍、時の棋士となった
佐々木五段を止めることによって自らの存在価値を示したかった
阿久津八段でしたが、しかし終盤で形勢の差を埋めるには至らず
上図の局面をみて、無念の投了を告げました。
勢いを感じさせる完勝を飾った佐々木五段はこれで公式戦６連勝。
竜王戦決勝トーナメントは準々決勝へ駒進め、久保利明王将と対戦。
藤井四段という年下のライバルの出現によりついに本能が目を覚まし
