夜、ショッピングセンターで買い物をしたついでに
書店に寄って「将棋世界」２月号を購入しました。
本号は
大崎善生氏が書かれた「聖の青春」が映画化されるにあたり
２９歳の若さでこの世を去った不世出の天才・村山聖九段が
特集されています。
ＮＨＫ杯での村山先生の対局姿はかすかに覚えているものの
没後１７年が経過し、その間に将棋から離れていた時期もあり
当時の記憶や印象はほとんど実感としては残っていません。。
１７年という歳月が積み重ねられる中で、幾度となく
村山先生の特集をテレビや雑誌、新聞などで目にしましたが
村山先生のことを身近に感じるようになったのはつい最近のこと。
まずは、尊敬する森信雄先生のお弟子さんであること。
森先生がご自身のブログやＳＮＳで村山先生のお写真を掲載し
思い出を綴り、想いを語られるのを通して、村山先生のことを知り
また、自分なりの想いを馳せるようになりました。
そして、今年の春に出版された今泉先生の著書に描かれた
村山先生とのエピソードは、その強さと優しさをより具体的に
イメージさせてくれます。。
今回は将棋界の二大スターである
谷川浩司九段と羽生善治名人が表紙を飾り、巻頭カラーで
村山先生についての対談を行っていますが、最初に読んだのは
「聖の青春」の著者・大崎氏の特別寄稿から（P．５４）。
別に意図したわけではなく
付録の「現役棋士データブック2016 下」が挟まっており
ぱっと開くと、そのページになったから読んだわけですが
個人的にはふっと合点の行った、素晴らしい寄稿でした。
最初に語られるのは、久保利明九段。
出会いは１９８６年。
当時１７歳、奨励会三段だった村山先生が
同１１歳、奨励会６級だった久保九段に声をかけ、将棋を指した。
以後、来る日も来る日、来る日も来る日も
ある棋士が「異常な関係」と表現するほどに二人は将棋を指し続け
その数は１万局を超えているかも。。
久保九段は言う
自分の将棋は半分以上、村山将棋。

村山九将棋は指し手となって、まだこの世界に
生きているんだと。
この文章を読みながら
２年前、春日井でお会いしお話させていただいた時の
久保九段の穏かで柔らかな物腰と語り口が鮮明に
脳裏に蘇ってきました。。
ああ、そうだったのかと。
爽快な捌きと泥臭い粘り腰が同居する久保九段の将棋は
村山先生と作り上げたものだったのかと。
どんなに加工しても
お酒は土壌から染み出た水の味がするのと同じで
人も育まれた環境や受けた影響が必ず人格や性格に
反映されるもの。
久保九段の柔らかさを通して、村山九段の想いを知る。
久保九段の強さを通して、村山九段の凄味に息を飲む。
森先生の寵愛を一身に受けながら
限られた人生の意味を将棋に懸け、後輩に託した。
大崎氏の文章を読み、全てがつながり
村山先生と将棋の奥深さに尊敬の念を抱きました。
