同じく中学生棋士となり、連勝記録を打ち立てるなど
破竹の快進撃を続ける、自らの後継者たる神童
藤井聡太四段について語りました。
藤井四段は現在中学三年生ということもあって
インタビューは主に進学問題について、実に興味深く
また共感の持てる羽生三冠の考えを聞くことが出来ました。
中学三年生でプロ棋士となった羽生三冠。
「当時はプロ合格と同時に将棋に専念する棋士ばかり」
という時代や環境の中にあって、羽生三冠は。。
将棋界は独立していて他の世界を知ることができない。幅広く知識を広げたい
との思いから、東京都立富士森高校に進学。
何としても卒業して大学にも進むつもりだった
と、当時の心境を振り返ります。
もちろん、羽生三冠も藤井四段と同様に
プロ入り直後から大活躍、おのずと対局数は増加し多忙を極めると
学業との両立は困難となり、最終的には残念ながら単位不足によって
卒業は出来ませんでしたが、その三年間を振り返り
修学旅行は東北の八幡平に行って初めてスキーを覚えた。今でも同級生とは多少のつながりがある
と、楽しい思い出や友達との交流を前向きに語ります。
しかし、さすがは羽生三冠だと感心させられるはここからで
高校中退後、自分で調べた通信制のカリキュラムを見つけ出し
編入して不足分の単位を取得、高校卒業資格を取得します。

十一歳で入門し、よく分からないまま棋士になった。『この道を選んだ』という瞬間や、誰かに進路を相談した経験がなかった。高校で同級生が進路に悩んでいるのを見て、うらやましいとさえ思った
棋士の道のりは長い。どう役立つか分からないけれど、棋士以外の経験をしておいてよかった
との言葉で、自らの高校生活の話を締めくくった羽生三冠は
当時と比べ、未成年の生活や仕事に厳しい目が向けられる時代。悩ましい目があるのでは
と、前置きした上で
藤井四段の「進路」に限定せず、今後についてこう語ります。。
